 British Values = Gospel Values!

In June 2014, the then secretary of state for education, Michael Gove, announced that schools would be required to promote British values from September 2014. At Holy Saviour we have always promoted these values through our PHSE and Religious Teachings.  We teach and promote the Gospel values of love, fairness, justice, respect, forgiveness, compassion, tolerance and understanding and in doing so, we also uphold British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

One of the tools we use to promote core values is the Caritas in Action Scheme. The units covered in each class across the school include:

  • The dignity of the human person
  • Family and Community
  • Solidarity and The Common Good
  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Option for the poor and vulnerable
  • The dignity of work
  • Stewardship

Holy Saviour staff receive the 'Prevent Strategy' training as part of annual safeguarding training.

Activities we do to promote British Values in our school include having an Eco-Council; marking Remembrance; raising money for those in need locally and internationally; visiting council chambers; speaking to our local MP; pupil questionnaires so that children have their say; visiting places of worship for other faiths, Multi-Faith Week, celebrating St. George's day, interviewing Pupil Chaplains and lots more! We always enjoy learning about our Royal Family and celebrating royal occasions!
